2:00 pm to 3:15 pm | Panel Presentation
3:30 pm to 5:00 pm | Questions and Answers

By the opening of the 2010-2011 school year, all Louisiana K-8 public schools are required to have a comprehensive arts program in place. Now is your chance to learn about this innovative and creative educational process

Led by Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu, arts-in-education has become a key component for school improvement. Act 175 was passed in 2007 requiring BESE to develop, adopt and implement a visual and performing arts curriculum for the state’s public schools. This act requires that Louisiana K-8 public schools provide 60 minutes of performing arts and 60 minutes of visual arts instruction per week.

“When Art Makes the Grade” features a panel of distinguished educators, led by Sarah Cunningham, director of the arts-in-education program at the National Endowment for the Arts. Bring your notepads, pens and questions to this informative session about a breakthrough program that has changed the lives of students across the country.

A distinguished panel including leaders of some of this country’s most profitable urban destinations and experts in the area of community redevelopment will guide your through the maze of obtaining tax advantages and capital and instruct in the importance of historic preservation from 2:00-3:30.
